I know there are valid pros and cons regarding this, but lately I've really been getting the urge to revisit this particular client mod. Which made me a bit curious, who else preferred it?

The initial cause of it being removed from most peoples' baseq3 folders was the surge of "Noghost Strict" servers that required Noghost 155 client. This whole strict setting was to increase antibot's ability to perform it's given task. My question though is this, despite the fact it does catch some hacks - so did the previous antibots. No matter what we still have these suspected cheat topics where people are posting demos for review/opinions in order to pass judgement. If we're still going to be left with this manual judging process, what's the point of requiring 1 particular client-side mod over others? The same thing can be said for those who prefered the SS Models slack made all those years back.

I know one good arguement for keeping servers "strict" is the fact it eliminates somewhat more cheaters, but like I said - you visit forums you still can find new "suspected" topics on pretty much a daily basis.

Anyways... just something I figured I'd get some thoughts on.

I preferred nemesis when it was still around. I think that your making a good point on the suspected cheater topics, but imo there would be more and more topics generating, if we allowed nemesis back onto server cfg's.

Well i doubt it.. Cyrus maybe, but i havnt seen any activity from wonkey lately.. Ill go and figure it out somehow, but you do know that, wonkey, is Monkey the creator of those hacks right.

Yes, I realize that CAT- that was also part of the reason people wanted it removed in the first place. That doesn't change the fact Nemesis is simply a clientside pk3, not a hack itself though. I think a lot of people used to be very hung up on that (justifiably so in a sense I suppose).


And to answer the question, no new installments have been made for roughly a year. The old domain, q3nemesis.com went down, but you can still access it on a mirror site if you google "quake nemesis". One of the creators put it on another domain they own.

Prior to the Noghost Client, the main clientside mods people chose between were the SS models found @ Desire and Nemesis.

Nemesis' purpose was to give 1.16 a 1.32 look or however you want to word it.

It is very high on "eye candy", it gives users many ways to customize their q3 experience. You may have seen ss's in scrim vaults featuring very elaborate scoreboards featuring stats of that paritcular player from that match. It gives info regarding kills/melts/effeciency for example.

Also, it's very useful from a ref standpoint; part of the menu in nemesis is devoted specifically to ref command shortcuts that people would otherwise be forced to create binds to simplify. Along with that it has demo viewing features as well.

I too perfered nemesis when we all had it, it looked better (imo), performed better (imo) and i just thought it was better (imo) but i guess the fact that it was made by an ex hacker ruined its rep and gave noghost the slighter edge, and the fact that noghost was pruducing antibot lists was anoher pro that took it over the edge, but, now that everything is noghost strickt i think i like it like this better. You have to admit, although we still have suspected cheaters, there has been alot less topics from what i last remeber, i remeber before every other day some one would be in suspected now where lucky if we make a topic in suspected once a week. But that wasnt the only case, i also found that alot of servers before didnt support nemesis, and i had to switch to noghost or no side mod at all to play in most servers.

In regards to cheat topics, from my perspective there are still new topics popping up on pretty much a daily basis (although not on same forum necessarily). Although part of this can be contributed to the fact it seems the community no longer has one "central" location to report suspecting cheating activity to due to the fact that since eRa abandoned their forums it's pretty much been inhabited by shit-talkers and spammers.

Noghost still is in progress,I hear it wil soon use a dll instead of pk3 for better anticheat etc.

Drawbacks yes Only windows not mac or linux can use dll

Seenage, to clarify something, it wasnt created by an ex hacker, it was in part created by a CHEAT MAKER. The Monkey cheats you see were created by Wonkey, who also uses the name Monkey.
Which yes as reap pointed out, was largly the problem with nemisis, however thats the reason why it was so customizable. In my opinion, the mod was created to give Cheaters an upper hand. I mean, why have an actively working anti bot, to catch the cheats you want people to buy? To me it doesnt add up.

and imo, for me, the only thing that felt better about Nemesis was All Weapons.

I actually think Nemesis felt "sluggish", I just miss the bells and whistles mostly.

The different feel you could adjust to in a game or two though if I remember correctly.

I'll probably wind up loading it up on my server and making a separate cfg to use it again for shits and giggles. Hopefully I get my home machine back Monday.

These blind, clueless accusations are part of the reason Nemesis is no longer in development. You really think that me and the idiot who calls himself monk3y are the same? Yes, we both come from the UK and most of the letters in our game handle are the same, but that's where the similarity ends.

Take a look at the features in Nemesis Client and compare them with the screenshots of the crap monk3y wrote. Ask server admins for a list of IPs that those cheaters used on their servers - monk3y used a dynamic IP from a UK ISP called blueyonder (that's how WonkeyMagic was used to continually kick him from servers I played on). I had, and still have, a static IP address.

On the Nemesis forum, we used to keep a post with information about monk3y so all the developers were aware who he was. Sadly, most of the links no longer work, but if you want to do your own research his email address is/was smakaveli AT hotmail.com. We banned him, based on his ISP, because he came to our forum asking for coding help on trivial things like adding boxes to the GUI! Below is the PHP code I added to our forum.

There are many ways to prove we are different people, but I don't have the time to waste.

I've not played quake3 for many years, although I did try quakelive last year. I keep the Nemesis website and forum running incase anyone finds it useful. The reason the client source has not been released is out of respect for those that still play quake3 - it would take minutes for someone to create a hack based upon it.

Me, Wonkey, knows how to code, does it for a living and is a pretty helpful and respectful individual.
Monk3y is a complete idiot devoid of much technical ability who I don't care to be likened to.
